Pacific Smiles shuts 76 dental surgeries, strikes on rent


The largest of the ASX-listed dental companies, Pacific Smiles Group, is temporarily shutting 76 of its 93 dental surgeries and standing down most of its staff because of tighter government restrictions in the coronavirus pandemic...The dental centre closures mean that 'a majority' of the group's employees will be stood down from April 1, Mr McKenzie said.

COVID-19 restrictions on dentists prompt warning to 'step up your oral hygiene'


A committee chaired by Australia's Chief Medical Officer has placed level three restrictions on dentists across the country... Any treatment that causes an "aerosol" — or a spray of saliva — has been banned, except in urgent circumstances...Dr Rachel Mascord said banning the use of cleaning units that created aerosols was, for dentists, "like chopping our arm off".
