Improving the delivery of dental services to Stolen Generations survivors


The launch of a new Healing Foundation resource, Working with the Stolen Generations: understanding trauma, on which the Australian Dental Association (ADA) consulted, aims to assist dental practitioners in providing effective treatment to the surviving members of the 11% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were removed from their families between 1910 and the 1970s.

Three female Indigenous students graduate in Doctor of Dental Medicine


Three Indigenous women were among 232 students to graduate at a ceremony held today in The University of Western Australia’s Winthrop Hall. Hira Rind, Patricia Elder and Ashlee Bence were awarded a Doctor of Dental Medicine, boosting the number of Australia’s Indigenous dentists by more than six per cent. Indigenous Allied Health Australia data shows there are currently 48 Indigenous dentists practising around Australia.

Smile Squad To Hit More Schools In Term One


Thousands more Victorian school students will enjoy brighter, healthier smiles when the Smile Squad free dental program is rolled out to more schools in term one next year. Minister for Health Jenny Mikakos today announced the local government areas where schools will receive visits from the vans from term one.
