It’s time to take on the sustainable dental practice challenge!


Sustainability is an increasing trend among dental practices across Australia but how do you take the first move towards it? The ADA is here to help you take those first important steps to turning your practice into a sustainable powerhouse. We’re looking for volunteer practices to assist in the development of some energy use baseline data by supplying 12 months of energy bills (electricity and/or gas) and answering eight short questions about their practice.

School dental program prevents 80 percent of cavities with one-time, non-invasive treatment


In a study of nearly 3,000 schoolchildren, silver diamine fluoride -- a liquid that is brushed onto the surface of teeth to prevent cavities or keep them from worsening -- was as effective against cavities as dental sealants, the standard of care. A single dose of either topical treatment given in elementary schools prevented roughly 80% of cavities and kept 50% of cavities from worsening when children were seen two years later.

Gum Inflammation & Cytokine Score Linked


Researchers at NYU College of Dentistry have developed a single score to describe the level of cytokines in the saliva, and this score is linked with the severity of clinical gum inflammation, according to a study published in the journal PLOS ONE.
