Oral care giant Hismile has used "misleading" videos in social media advertisements showing a sales professional, and its own staff, spruiking products while dressed as health workers. In one instance, AI appears to have been used to show a woman performing dental work... In the same ad it used AI clips to show decayed teeth rapidly healing after a liquid substance was put on them. It comes just weeks after the company was fined by the consumer watchdog for separate alleged false and misleading representations in its social media advertising... paid $138,000 in penalties after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) issued it with infringement notices

2026 ADA DHF First Nations Grants recipients announced during NAIDOC Week


Congratulations to the three recipients of this year’s ADA Dental Health Foundation’s First Nations Study Grants, announced during NAIDOC week which celebrates and recognises the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The grants are awarded to students who can use the grants “... to cover costs of dental equipment, textbooks and to financially support students while they are on placements or living away from home”.

Prevention and detection efforts for noma improved by HKU Dentistry study


Common in areas which lack proper healthcare infrastructure and preventable through a combination of proper nutrition and oral hygiene, Noma is a facial gangrenous disease with a mortality rate of 80 to 90% that occurs mostly frequently in impoverished communities in sun-Saharan Africa. A collaborative international research team led by the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Hong Kong has shone a light on this globally neglected disease, mapping the incidence of noma of Nigeria, in the process providing an important new tool to support prevention and early detection efforts.
