Springwood dentist Graham Toulmin chronicles his African odyssey in new memoirs, Long Road to Zaire


When Graham Toulmin launched the memoirs that chronicle his path to decades of humanitarian work as a dentist in Africa last month it was a joyful occasion before a packed audience of family and friends in Springwood. But it was a different story in 1985 when Dr Toulmin told his bank manager about his plans to sell his Springwood dental practice and move his young family to Zaire.

Melbourne-based oral hygiene app Pearlii has raised $1.5 million as it embarks on a mission to reach disadvantaged Australians and strengthen its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. The funding round, which exclusively came from investment firm BRC Capital, comes almost two years after the company closed a $1.25 million raise from Indigenous Capital Limited and Justin Liberman.

Student gets national recognition


Ms Chia was recently awarded the Dental Hygienist Association Australia national student of the year award for leading her cohort’s social responsibility project as part of her final year of study. The project involved an outreach campaign called Orapact, which aims to provide care products and education about oral hygiene practices to disadvantaged communities.
