Dentists cited as integral to ending HIV epidemic by 2030


The Declaration for the 8th World Workshop on Oral Health (WW8) in HIV/AIDS, held from 13 to 15 September 2019, has singled out the important role of oral health professionals in managing patients living with HIV. More than half of these patients exhibit oral symptoms in the early stages of the disease, causing issues with chewing, swallowing and tasting food and so oral health professionals play a key role in not treating these symptoms but often in diagnosing HIV-positive people in the first place.

Drill or no drill – ‘the end of dentist’s dilemma’


A dentist's drill might not be the best way to tackle tooth decay in children's teeth, a new study has concluded. A three-year study compared three different treatment options for tooth decay in children's primary or first teeth. It found no evidence to suggest that conventional fillings were more effective in stopping pain or further decay than other treatment options.

Public dental treatment waiting list grows to almost 90,000


The waiting list for public dental treatment has grown to almost 90,000 adults, prompting dentists to plead for more funding. President of the Australian Dental Association NSW Kathleen Matthews said the demand for public dentistry was there "but the funds aren't".
