Dentists join fight over payroll tax shift


Practices that have independent dentists working in them fear they will receive backdated tax bills due to recent rulings from state revenue offices. Dentists say the bills would be the biggest threat to their sector since the pandemic led to critical mask shortages.

They have written to new Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan to request a tax amnesty, similar to what has been put in place for GPs in NSW.

Central Highlands Regional Council axes fluoride in water, but dentists call for greater fluoride access


The Central Highlands Regional Council has voted to stop adding fluoride to its water supplies. The Australian Dental Association says fluoride in drinking water is a cost-effective way to minimise dental decay. The association says 90 per cent of Australians have access to fluoride in water, compared to 72 per cent of Queenslanders.
