Investigation launched into marketing of clear teeth straighteners


The national health regulator's criminal offences unit has launched an investigation into four clear orthodontic teeth straightener providers, amid claims of discounts to preferred dentists that are not disclosed to customers and social media influencers spruiking products in breach of the law. The Age and Sydney Morning Herald can reveal that the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency's (AHPRA) criminal offences unit is investigating Invisalign as well as three direct-to-consumer operators SmileDirectClub, EZ Smile and WonderSmile.

The bold but simple design of the new AHPRA logo aims to serve us well into the future. It still has a key element of the old logo, namely the map of Australia, but is better suited to digital platforms and for use across a variety of other materials. Most importantly, it will not need updating as the old logo would if health ministers decide public safety would benefit from other health professions becoming regulated.

London dentist suspended over patient who bled to death


A dentist whose patient bled to death when she had five teeth removed has been suspended for misconduct. Tushar Kantibhai Patel, of Purley, south London, operated on the woman, known as Patient A, despite her telling him she was taking an anti-clotting drug for a rare blood disorder.
