ASX grills Smiles Inclusive over KPMG audit


The Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) has called on embattled dental group Smiles Inclusive (ASX: SIL) to provide copies of all email communications with its auditors KPMG since August 30 in the wake of a surprise $31 million loss announcement this week.

$14m invested to create vaccine for debilitating periodontal gum disease


A vaccine for periodontal gum disease, which affects a third of all adults globally, is in development following a $14 million investment into newly-formed biotech company Denteric Pty Ltd. The company was set-up to develop and commercialise the research outputs of a long-running programme originating from the University of Melbourne working in collaboration with CSL.

ADA's advocacy on "added sugar" labeling having an effect


In August, the Australian and New Zealand Ministerial Forum on Food Regulation requested that Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) review nutrition labelling to quantify added sugars in the nutrition information panel on foods. Furthermore, the Forum agreed that further consideration is warranted on a pictorial approach to sugary beverages/sugarsweetened beverages.

CAD/CAM Dentistry: What you need to know


CAD/CAM involves three processes: an optical scanner to capture the intra-oral (and possible extra oral) image(s); software to convert the image(s) to a 'digital model' to design the prosthesis; and a device to manufacture the prosthesis. The device is customarily a milling machine. However, 3D printing of the restoration is under development. In Australia, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is reviewing the registration of 3D printing materials.
