Vietnam dentists target Australians on social media amid plans to expand medical tourism industry


Vietnamese dental clinics are targeting Australians through social media, prompting more people to travel there for cheaper dental work. The country's Health Ministry says Australians are among the top foreign nationalities receiving medical treatment there. Vietnam hopes to increase its medical tourism sector and attract twice as many international patients over the next four years, which has Australian dentists concerned.

Dental and oral health students from the University of Sydney are helping to close the gap in the rural dental sector by taking part in clinical placements across rural New South Wales. Each year, around 50 dental and oral health students volunteer for placements in rural dental clinics, providing free care to local residents while developing their skills in a more complex environment.
