Insurance change could push dental care further out of reach for seniors


A proposed change to private health insurance rebates could raise premiums for over-65s, and dentists warn it may push more older Australians to delay dental care. More than half of Australians aged over 65 put off dental treatment last year, and cost was the main reason. Now dentists and seniors’ advocates are warning that a change to private health insurance could push care even further out of reach.

ADA Graduate Student Travel Grants broaden professional horizons


Each year the ADA awards up to 18 grants to post graduate dentistry students which provide funding up to a maximum of $2,000 AUD (GST inclusive) for participation in specialty training programs to support interstate and overseas travel to attend conferences, symposiums, workshops, or research-associated travel contributing to course work.

Children’s oral health improved but postcode gap remains


Not all Queensland children are benefitting from programs designed to improve child oral health. Oral health data was collected from 7,718 Queensland school students aged between 5 -14 years and compared with the first QCOHS study in 2010-2012. Nearly one-third of Queensland children lack access to fluoridated water, mainly in regional areas.

Central Great Southern Dental Project Hits Milestone


More than 600 children in Central Great Southern have accessed free oral care through Early Years Partnership CGS Dental Health Project. EYP is a 10-year collaboration between the Cook Labor Government, Minderoo Foundation and four diverse Western Australian communities. 129 children have also received emergency dental treatment closer to home
