Genesis Capital founders launch fresh takeover bid for Pacific Smiles after scuttling rival’s offer


Following an exodus of key executives that followed a failed $327 million takeover attempt from National Dental Care (NDC) last month, Pacific Smiles (ASX: PSQ) is back in the chair under bright lights as a substantial shareholder launches a fresh tilt at ownership under a different name. Beam Dental Bidco, which lists Genesis Capital founders Dr Michael Caristo and Chris Yoo as directors, has made an off-market takeover offer for Pacific Smiles at $1.90 per share, representing a valuation of $303 million.

Dental Board of Australia sets fee for 2024/25


The Dental Board of Australia and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) have announced an increase in the annual registration fee for dental practitioners for 2024/25. From 18 September, the registration fee is set to $785 for dentists and dental specialists (an increase of $30), $267 for dental prosthetists (an increase of $10) and $246 for dental hygienists, dental therapists and oral health therapists (an increase of $9), limiting the increases below indexation (4%).

A recent study reveals that intensive diabetes treatment can improve periodontal disease inflammation. Researchers found that two weeks of intensive diabetes treatment under hospitalization for patients with type 2 diabetes significantly improved not only blood sugar control but also PISA, an indicator of gum disease inflammation. Furthermore, the improvement in PISA was related to factors such as insulin secretion capacity and the severity of diabetes complications and comorbidities before diabetes treatment. These findings suggest that early intervention in diabetes is crucial for improving gum disease in diabetic patients.
