Botox and other injectables the focus of cosmetic industry crackdown


Injectables such as Botox and fillers will be the focus of an upgraded health regulator review targeting rogue operators in the cosmetic industry in an attempt to "strengthen the hand of the consumer".

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) will begin scrutinising doctors, nurses, dentists and other practitioners who perform fillers, anti-wrinkle and fat-dissolving injections and thread lifts.

NZ doctors, dentists strike over inflation pay claim


Senior doctors and dentists are unapologetic about a strike which will defer surgeries for hundreds of New Zealanders, labelling it an "exciting day". On Tuesday, the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists (ASMS) led their first ever strike action, walking off the job between midday and 2pm. The medical professionals are frustrated they won't receive pay rises to match inflation, currently running at six per cent.

Victorians lose their teeth as dental chairs sit empty


Many Victorians are waiting up to three years for dental treatment and increasingly losing teeth while more than 100 funded dental chairs sit empty due to a workforce crisis. The number of public dentists has plummeted by almost 20 per cent in five years and the state’s public dental system is facing major staff shortages said Associate Professor Matthew Hopcraft, who is chief executive of the Australian Dental Association’s Victorian branch.
